Dental implants have become a very popular method for replacing missing teeth. Not everyone can tolerate having dentures in their mouth, and dentures can slip from time to time. While bridges are effective at restoring your smile, they depend on the teeth on either side for them to remain in place.

Because implants are attached to titanium posts that are placed directly into your jaw, they will not slip since the bone will grow around the posts. That will mean you will be able to speak and chew more effectively, and your jaw bone can grow stronger.

Dental implants are a great choice for many people. However, they are not for everyone. You should have a consultation with our dentist, Dr. Chris Lindsey to discuss your dental and overall health, your lifestyle choices and any medication you are taking. If you do not have enough jawbone to support the implant, or are pregnant, implants may not be for you. If you are a heavy smoker, or a substance abuser or cannot commit to a good oral health regimen you should consider other options for replacing a tooth. Implants may not be a good choice for you if you clench your jaw or grind your teeth, since doing so can cause damage to the implants. If you have uncontrolled diabetes, issues with your immune system, or take certain medications, the dentist may suggest another course of treatment.

While implants are very good replacements for missing teeth, they are not the only option. If you are interested in implants, call Chris E. Lindsey DDS in Palo Alto, California, at 650-327-3770 for an appointment. We look forward to discussing your options with you!
