We all love the holiday time of year, and it’s certainly one of the most fun times of the year. Here are a few tips you can implement to make sure that your teeth are having fun too. If you have any additional inquiries or concerns about keeping your teeth healthy this season, be sure to reach out at 650-327-3770 to arrange your next exam so we can go over them with you face-to-face.

Go easy on the alcohol. Many festivities are celebrated with a little bit of drinking, so if you celebrate in this way, be sure to go easy on the alcohol. Drinking too much alcohol can dry out your spit reserves and leave you unprotected against cavity-forming acids.
Avoid sticky foods. Sticky foods, though yummy, are some of the worst for your teeth. When sticky foods dry on your teeth, they can be tricky to get rid of from your teeth with normal brushing and flossing. If you do eat sticky foods, try drinking some water to rinse out your oral cavity afterward.

Take it easy on starchy foods. Starchy foods including cake, cookies, and potato chips are sure to be a hit at a lot of holiday parties, but they may alter your teeth negatively. The carbohydrates in these foods build plaque on teeth, and when plaque isn’t brushed away soon, it can form into tartar, which will necessitate extraction by a dentist.
