Permanent teeth can sometimes emerge from the gums with very little space between them. In some of these instances, an overcrowding issue can affect the alignment of multiple teeth. Left unaddressed, this can leave your son or daughter with an unappealing smile as well as teeth that are at an increased risk of dental fractures and lost or damaged tooth enamel.

In a situation like this you should consider scheduling a consultation for braces with our orthodontist, Dr. Chris Lindsey. If the overcrowding problem is significant or one of their teeth has turned at a severe angle, the [dr-type] might recommend an extraction. This will provide sufficient space for braces to bring the remaining teeth into position. After the tooth has been removed, the doctor may prescribe a pain medication or an anti-inflammatory.
After your child’s braces have been placed, he will need to return to Chris E. Lindsey DDS every four to six weeks to have the dentist adjust their braces. This will tighten the orthodontic components to gradually bring the teeth incrementally closer to the ideal position.

If you live in the Palo Alto, California, area and your son or daughter is struggling with an overcrowded mouth or misaligned teeth, you should call 650-327-3770 to schedule a consultation at Chris E. Lindsey DDS.
