When you visit the office of Chris E. Lindsey DDS, our dentist and team will perform a risk management assessment to ascertain your oral and general health, as well as your dental needs. During this assessment we will do three things:
- Record personal profile information for your patient history. This includes current and past dental and dental hygiene oral health practices, and specific health history.
- Perform a comprehensive clinical evaluation. We will examine not only your teeth, but also your head and neck, and oral cavity regions. We perform an oral cancer screening, check for signs of periodontal (gum) disease, make an assessment of trauma and possible TMJ disorders, and evaluate hard tissue. We may take x-rays during this process.
- Determine your level of risk by using the data gathered during the assessment process to identify any risks to your general and oral health. We include more than a dozen factors to determine your level of risk.
Even a limited clinical inspection can reveal possible signs of oral disease, malformation, or injury. Information collected during a risk management assessment remains on file to assist our dentist and team with any future dental care you may need. Depending on your level of risk, we may recommend certain procedures to help correct dental problems, or refer you to a specialist for further treatments.
